.parisian, what type of bead work do you do?

i just finished a course in tambour beading, the kind they do at lesage. i have a head piece in the works but i'm not sure about my backing fabric now.

that blow portrait is going to be intense.

I'm looking for a set of beads that start off small, and get incrementally larger. Does anyone sell these?

do you not have bead stores near you thumbscrew where you can just buy lots of the same colour beads in differnet sizes?

glampetals i have no idea what i do actually. i think technically i would be a nightmare because i just get ideas and run with them. tell me about your course please? what is tambour beading?
i am thinking about doing something to a skateboard next. like making some sort of fabric cover and beading starry night over it maybe? every year a friend of mine puts on this huge art/skate show here called i used to skate once and lots of artists contribute and do wonderful things. "i used to skate once"
i bought one this year called deck and balls which was just an orange deck with two basketballs stickytaped to the bottom making it look like a giant penis. saw it at hte show and near pissed myself laughing. highbrow.

tambour beading is a french technique where you use a hook to "stitch" beads onto fabric that is stretched over a frame. the hook looks like a little needle. like this:

so when you bead you are actually stitching on the back side of the fabric. the beads are on a thread that you catch with the hook. generally you hold the bead in place with your finger and pull the thread through. its like making a chain stitch but with beads on the front. its entirely by feel. does that make sense?

here's a diagram of it:

this is a dress i made for my dawls. the beads are in clustered flowers all around the dress. it has embroidery too:

so all that beading you see at lacroix and chanel is done in the tambour technique.
