Kittyradio Photo Club?

So in about 6 weeks my exams are over and I enter a summer of poverty, boredom and unemployment. Which I am hoping to fill with lots of picture taking. I quite like the idea of being a member of a photo club in terms of having themes to take pictures of, people to discuss stuff with etc but then again the other thing I like about photography is it is quite an anti-social activity and I don't really want to be wandering round with actual other people taking pictures of the same stuff.

So I was thinking where better to start a photo club then here? Everyone is welcome, film and digital, black and white and colour, any skill level etc. We could pick different stuff every week or so (depending on interest) to explore and then all post our stuff? Thought I would post this now even though I can't really start much til mid-July because I need something to look forward to and if no one is interested, then I'll have to make ACTUAL photo club friends-something I don't want to do unless I have to!

Sounds like a good idea, I'd like to see some more people's pictures. I'm really bad at themes though, I always just go out and photograph whatever I see. We need to come up with utterly genius themes, not just self portrait/animal/nature.

Well my boyfriend gave me this book called The Photographer's Eye which is notionally about how to take better digital photographs but it mostly just applicable to taking different photographs and has all sorts of slightly unusual things in it we could play with like Gesalt's law of closure, dynamic versus static balance, Itten's contrasts- essentially things I have never heard of but will type up when we start doing it. So say Itten's contrasts are from the Bauhas school and involve taking contrasts between things like light and dark or much and little and trying to represent that. So way more freedom then say "animals" (which is hard for me I live somewhere so build up even a pigeon is an anomaly).

And miss_scarlet almost all the pictures I take are taken on are Canon EOS 300 which I have bought several off ebay- with lens- for about £40. So its fine to take pictures on whatever you like- I don't think a good camera is half as important as a good eye, but you can get really decent film cameras for peanuts if you want to take the hobby further.
