job with art and science

not sure if this is the right place.... but i'll give it a shot.

For a long long time i've been interested in a career of restoring and preserving art. maybe like working with archeologists and cleaning the things they dig up (maybe that's more a science field?).

what is a job for something like this? and would i major in simple art history?

if anyone can help me with this, i'd appreciate it!

Well, there is such a thing as Art Conservation. For that you'd study a lot of chemistry and the like in order to know the properties of paint, how to clean them, how to preserve works on paper, etc. There are programs for art conservation.

Archeology is an interesting field, but I would not call it science. It's more history than anything.

The fresh heartbreak was, in a sense, like being in a foreign country; everything seemed alien, brilliant and glinting. It was as if I’d been flayed, so that even the air hurt. When you’re that unhappy, any glimmer of beauty or consolation feels like running into an old friend abroad, or seeing mountaintops through smog. Maybe we mistakenly think we want “happiness,” which we tend to picture in very vague, soft-focus terms, when what we really crave is the harder-edged intensity of experience.

Have you tried being a maid before? You'll have the chance to polish a great variety of statues and discover all kinds of forgotten art works.

lots of science in archaeology to do with provenance. all those scientific dating techniques. analyses of materials, metallurgy, geology, even forensics/dna if you dig up bodies. you'll be pulling splinters of a viking's sword out of the skulls of saxons and putting it under a microscope

also all that remote sensing they do with sonar and satellite photos and the like

ok...maybe not so much the archaeology. it's interesting, but not that interesting. but i'm sure they'd need an art history know-it-all there?

i'm going to start taking classes next fall, so i want to know exactly what i want to do by then so i know what classes to take.
