Pro Digital Camera Advice needed

I have found a renewed passion and talent for photography. While I used to work in the field as an assistant to pros and as a make-up artist, this was 10 years ago. But the reason my fires are lit again is because of digital. I love that I can see my work while I'm still feeling it, that and I can afford pro printing because I can select beforehand.

But here's the thing, I want to shoot at the shutter speed of a pro manual film camera. Things like red eye and light control aren't an issue, I know how to control that blind. I don't need those features. It's the problem of having to 'freeze' while the shot takes. Sure, yes, I have a cheap digital now, but I bought it for snapshots ( and it's been fine, but not for when I get fired up, or if my subject moves).

Does anyone here have any suggestions for a good semi-pro digital? I'm mostly shooting outside (I live in Montana), so while I understand if I drop it on rocks I screwed, but it can't be wary of elements (my last shoot was in heavy snow, it wash fresh, couldn't miss it).

I say semi-pro because I can't write off the cost, and it's a hobby now.The only higher end features I really want are frame stability and higher shutter speed. Does anyone have a favorite digital with those features? While I have a budget, it's higher considering I'm used to pro prices. Links would be great! Thank you

Easy
Canon Eos 5d or the 1d-s mark 3 is the sweetest thing.

however the 5d is going to get superceeded..hopefully sooooon. i'm still shooting film but i'm going to have to go to the dark side and go digi...i want the 5d (or its replacement) as they're full frame...anything less (eg the 40d, tec) aren't and my tutor thinks i should save the money get a 40d and buy L series (eg pro) lens with the price difference...but i really want full range use of lenses rather than having the difference.

i'm not sure of the nikons cuase i'm a canon girl but the 5d is your best bet.

however i do know pros who think the 40d is fine. though like i said they aren't full frame, but if you can't justify cost then maybe the 40d is the way to go and just buy your lenses considering its x1.6 when working out their range.
