i have been here long enough that i can be myself.
i am what is the sort of punk that establishes a continuioty from the days of the Dead Kennedys, the birth of antiracist action and Unity Cognition and other REAL american punk street scenes -- and the current days of the new infoage. if someone wanted to call that a cyberpunk or a cypherpunk they would be half right. (cypherpunks are more into the opencode issues. i am not a programmer.) i don't have any plug jacks in my skull either.
the point is that even the first cyberpunk authors were genre-oriented -- they admired punk rock from the outside, not really understanding the music or the scenes, or the dubious politics. but anarchist emma goldman who lived before punk rock or rock, even, the anarchist who provided birth control information and thus got herself impounded, busted, deported in the Red Scare -- she was anarchist before there was Rock Music, let alone punk. I am like her.
this boggles my mind when people look over the deep information of the above several statements and not only don't get it, but take time to SAY "what is it?" but it is the nature of the totalitarian beast bent on conquest and rule -- that it decieves as many people as it can, and then -0-
when it is a known liar, simply doubles up and lies more intensely.
as such punk died, but most people don't really know why. punk died because capitalism and socialism did a one-two punch on it --
capitalism co-opting the spirit of the music, diluting it, getting copies and blacklisting the real thing --
and socialism hitting in the street scenes, infiltrating wherever there was unity and creating conformity via peer pressure, the sort of conformity that neutralizes love. (or sends it elsewhere to go on being itself. Longtime
Kr people will know exactly what I mean -- but most, because THEY WERE DOING THE BANNING AND ENFORCING, will not admit it and might even step up here and call me a liar. they are welcome to do that, and other stuff too...like fucking off. i can still say 'fucking off' here, as in nazi punks fuck off -- right? it does take the pressure off, cause, well, i have been here that long as a stoic nirvana and newly found hole fan, and i just have to say that, in the words of the great song, that was on in the last year i ever forced myself to pukishly, vomity central tune in mtv, "who sucked out the feeling?"
there is a set sort of mentality that just says like a damn robot
"this is just another inane, pointless rant from x"
denying that a thing has any point or coherence
doesn't remove the point or the coherence, but the goal
is peer pressure, the goal is forcing conformity of attitude.
