| | | Knitting Do you knit? Post pictures of things you have knitted.
Pointless hand grenade I just finished tonight:
Bow:
Jumper I've never ever worn apart from this picture:
The first "proper" thing I made like two years ago was this hat for my dad:
First ever ever thing I made (hence the face of joy) was this hideously tacky scarf:
I'm trying to learn to crochet. But I cannot. It is practically the same thing? Just wool and needle type things. I have a book and everything but is is HARD.
Knitting because I am pretty lame and boring . But it is sort of fun.

| | ah! you made the Tubey! ive been considering it although it seems to come out weirdly shaped for so many people. the sleeves too long (and youre knitting that in a tube so its difficult to get it right) or too wide or something always seems to go wrong with it
right now im knitting starsky, and baout to pick up the via diagonale again, and getting frustrated with socks. i dont want to have to follow a pattern so im just swatching various yarns to try adn get the perfect fabric... not too tight, not so loose that it feels like youre walking on pebbles.
ill get my camera to take a pic of the starsky and via diagonale

one thing to watch out for with crochet is if you're using both english and american patterns the naming of the stitches is *really* confusing eg US single crochet == UK double crochet
i love your starsky, dirty. when i saw that one on knitty i wasn't majorly excited by it but it looks awesome in that green.
i'm in the process of starting a knitting & crochet blog (not that i expect anyone to read it but i like cataloging) so i'm getting my pics online...
i just finished these wristwarmers yesterday, my first cables (pattern from knitting: Doctor Who wrist warmers + i made a few tiny alterations)
i made this a few months ago, it was fun to make because of the construction (from loop-d-loop book)
i don't have any pics of the stuff i'm working on yet. |

| | oh the kiddos asymmetrical sweater! i checked out that book again from the lbrary and found the kid sized one you were talking about. what yarn did you use? it looks soft./ it looks like this alpaca from debbie bliss actually, but do you have the guts to use alpaca for a kids sweater? OH LORD!
when i weigh less i want to make that one for myself. its too bulky for a fattie though.
i just cant crochet. it made me crazy trying. also i cant knit continental. i mean i CAN, but im so tense doing it. i dont want to relearn everything
is the yarn your using for the wristwarmer the same type but less bulky as the asymmetrical?

| | | i used rowan little big wool which is a wool/nylon blend for the sweater. the wristwarmers are patons diploma gold dk (because i felt guilty about spending so much on luxury yarns).
i've been trying to knit continental too, to start with it was awful and i was dropping everything and all fingers and thumbs but it's getting easier. i think you just have to make yourself do it lots to retrain your hands. i'm now finding switching between knits and purls much easier but it did take a while to get used to it. i used the knittinghelp.com videos but i found that i didn't like using my little finger so i wrap the yarn twice around my index finger. |

| | the wrist warmers are patons? whoa. i thought they were at least mission falls. they look really nice. the knitting is excellent, btw im always making mistakes, it doesnt look like you do.
yeah about continental, its the whole first finger tension with yarn thing that im not getting down. the movements are ok now, but my tension is wacked out. i have a garter longways scarf im working on (with CHEEP yarn TLC i think?)
this one surf and turf
in hopes that i can figure out continental by the time im done
what do you want to work on?
myiaa, i want that hand grenade!

| | I want to learn to knit and crochet. Both my mother and sister are brilliant at knitting but I am just too heavy handed and impatient. I always end up dropping or adding on stitches by accident. :frustration:
I'd love to be able to make something like this: Ana Clara Voog is fantastic.

he doesnt believe in being showy with color or pattern. about all he can handle is a muted green in standard aran knit. he says the rest is well crafted bonkers.

what do you want to work on? | yeah i have trouble with the tension too, maybe that's where the little finger is supposed to help but i found that was getting me in more of a mess with it because my little finger had a tendancy to open out too much.
i've just bought some blue sirdir toddler aran to make something for my sister's baby boy which is due in july but i haven't decided what yet. and i want to do a cabled scarf to go with the wristwarmers, i've been trying to decide on the design.
how is your muscle spasm now btw?

| | | myiaa, i think you and i have the same knitting book. does yours have a flying duck and little cake type things in it as well? i don't really understand knitting books and patterns to be honest. the way i do it is a bit weird because i mostly taught myself and i think my knits and purls are the wrong way round. | |
