it's harder than knitting, but i love how it looks!
you know most people say knitting is harder. i agree with you though. crochet doesnt make sense to me.

it takes me forever to finish a project. thats mostly bc i work on so many at a time. if you ahve the money, get a set of options and lots of dpn's and some straights and that way you have have ten projects at once, always have something interesting to do and eventually lots of cool things to wear and give away

it took me a long time to get it together. so frustrating to switch knit and purl and do ribbing and then seed and moss stitch, and it just takes practice.
i was obsessed and knitted nearly every night for the first six months. i made a sock by month four., but that was just after i was able to make a moss stitch scarf. silver, a woman over at knittinghelp said that if you can knit, purl, cast on, cast off, then you can make a sock. she has detailed directions with pictures and goes through every part of making the sock. without that i wouldnt have attempted. now im sock obsessed.
right after my first sock, i attempted cabling and i found that even that was really really easy. it just looks complicated but it honestly isnt. i suggest the hello yarn's "irish hiking scarf" it took me a few attempts before i got the rhythm, but thats how it always is with me. and then all of a sudden im doing it.
some projects ive attempted like pomatomus ive had to walk away after days of frustrating attempts. five months later, i piked it up aain and it was magic. i just did it.
persevere! make an entire scarf out of ribbing. make an entire scarf out of moss stitch or seed stitch. you will make mistakes. accept it and move on. these are practice, this is the way you learn.

my evil witchy babysitter taught me to knit, about the only useful thing she nice thing she ever did, but it was a cleverly hatched plan to shut me up.
i used to make scarves and hats for my dad and he used to wear them in front of me, i bet he took them off when i wasn't there though. and i made me mum a scarf which bafrely fitted round her neck because i got impatient.
I'm trying to learn to crochet. But I cannot. It is practically the same thing? Just wool and needle type things. I have a book and everything but is is HARD.
Knitting because I am pretty lame and boring . But it is sort of fun.
I find knitting very relaxing. I used to sit with my back against the radiator in my bedroom and knit for hours, listening to the Moldy Peaches on repeat and drinking lots and lots of cups of tea. I was very prolific. Sort of. I could knit fast. I still enjoy it but don't do it enough. Also, I don't really know how to make things like jumpers or hats. All I can do is knit long bits of material. Lots of scarves!
Crocheting is hard, I agree. My flatmate tried to teach me last month. She's really good, and fast too, but didn't explain it very well and I failed miserably. I'd like to do it properly though.
I really envy your mad knitting skillz though.

today i bought this, having never knitted (except when i think i was 12)
and have so far made this
it's going to be a wrap
so this book is really helpful? i almost bought it today but i thought maybe there was some secret knitting book.... does it tell you what kind of needles (are they needles or sticks?) to get and what kind of yarn
ive never knitted before but ive been aching to try forever now i just dont know where to start....

for your first foray into knitting, I recommend a pair of size US 10.5 or 11 long straight needles. Aluminum is fine, or bamboo, but bamboo is slightly more expensive.
You will need "bulky" or "chunky" yarn. Make sure the yarn is straight yarn, no crimps or loopy things or miltiple dark colors or jewels or anything like that. Plain yarn. Acryclic is fine to start with, so don't worry about the type of material of the yarn.
Get a lighter color, like light blue or pink or yellow or white or beige, bc you will want to see the stitches you are making. this is also why you dont buy fuzzy novelty yarn.
and then go to knittinghelp and look at all the videos on knitting that amy has. she starts with cast on pick "single cast on"
and then do a knit stitch you can pick either continental or engligh. i recommend continental. although its more difficult to learn, one you learn the other way, its hard to reteach yourself. i am struggling with this currently. i am so used to english that i get frustrated trying to relearn everything.
cast on 30 stitches and knit them, turn your work and knit and repeat the process until you have a piece of fabric long enough to be a scarf.
so basically you really dont have to buy a book. learning from video is much easier and its free!
