Hey Emma, would you consider posting your photoss in the smaller size, only because I can't actually see the entire photo on my screen at the same time! I'm sure other folk have big screens but I'm sadly lacking in that area

So I went greyhound racing the other day, and decided to take along my camera. Was slightly thwarted by the fact it was an evening meet, I didn't have my tripod and flash photography was forbidden. Anyway, I stretched some 400 ISO film up to 1250, and hoped for the best, which alas was very underexposed. But here they are- I have tweaked the brightness a bit (first photoshopping of my pics I have ever done) but alas they are all still pretty dark:

Tilted angle of this first shot is from demanding a piggy back from the boyfriend, then using his head as a tripod. He did not stay as still as I wanted.

Good pictures

I feel bad for those dogs though.

My neighbor has two grey hounds that were rescued from Tracks. One broke something in her foot and they were going to put her down or who knows. I don't remember what had happened to the other.

Ah this is the UK. People here are animals nuts. The track has its own adopt out programme for the dogs who have done racing, my friend is actually looking into getting one from them....

Track is closing soon though, its too expensive to keep running so its being torn down to build housing. Which is a shame because its a beautiful 1930s construction. I took some colour pics there too but it will probably be a while before I finish that film...

That's awesome to hear that they don't kill off the poor puppies.

Your friend should totally take one if the track is closing, they're probably looking for lots of homes.

Apparently cause they are mostly still racing age, they are going off to other tracks (there is another big stadium in London and some more about).

Some from a recent wander in one of the less scenic areas of Glasgow, though a lot more intresting than some of the nice bits.

Despite the fact these are on HP5 (ISO 400) and I had the camera set at 125 they seem to have turned out ok. I also shot the whole roll at f1.8 and it was sunny so maybe that compensated? I don't really know. I do know that I need to pay a bit more attention to what I'm actually doing, that's usually a good idea

HP5 is pretty handy for its crazy latitude. It's pretty clear from the extra noise in these images that the scans have been pushed up quite considerably digitally, but it's good that the film's still managed to keep the detail.

Basically, the camera would've metered as if you had 125 film in and used longer shutter speeds than normal, pretty much overexposing the film by approx 1 & 2/3 stop. This would've left the film pretty "black" after developing, so the scanner's had to work a wee bit harder to see all the detail and make it into a useable image, hence the wee bit extra noise.

(Sorry for not telling you all this before you went to get the stuff developed!)

Ok 'noise' = grainy? It's funny that stuff has been done to my film but I still have no clue, I'm really looking forward to this developing course so I can get a grasp of everything.

Thanks Emma, I like this set of pictures a lot. It was a good photo day and it's also not a place I'd normally go (except to score some crack).
