| | Didn't know where to put this. I have drawn a few things and I enjoy it, but its mostly stuff I have copied.
Like this, I copied it off that one Hole CD sleeve or whatever, but when I try to draw something on my own I can't think of anything, I want to do something on my own. Is it just because I'm a boring person? How could I think up something to draw instead of just copying it from somewhere? |

| | I am the same.. If I draw from my own mind it turns out like this portrait I did of a girl I used to know:
I'm good at drawing landscapes but that is still "copying". |

I can draw free-hand, looking at something. I can NOT draw from my own mind though.

| | You two aren't copying at all! I mean, all the choices you make about the subject, materials, composition etc. come from your own mind. (Kind of philosophical but please, do think about this. It means it's impossible to portray something objectively, even if filming a documentary.)
And keep up the good work! |

| | | There's a picture of Mark Ryden's studio where he has goat's skulls, dolls, masks and other weird items he's collected all around. I thought his paintings came from his imagination but he just 'copies' and stick unconnected objects together to create something new. |

| | | Wow thanks everyone. I always thought I was a very awful painter. I want to learn how to paint properly that one was made in a room full of paint fumes and booze on some shitty cardboard box. I like the chunkiness of oil paints. |
